Bio
A mature-age recruit from the WAFL, Steve Turner was a ruckman who arrived at Melbourne in 1986 on the recommendation of former Perth teammate Alan Johnson. Standing 193cm, he offered a physical presence in the ruck and up forward, quickly establishing himself in the senior side despite a history of knee trouble. His tenure at the Demons is best remembered for a bittersweet 1987 campaign; Turner fought back from injury to play in the decisive Round 22 victory over Footscray that snapped the club's 23-year finals drought, only to re-injure his knee during the contest and miss the historic finals campaign that followed. He crossed to St Kilda for the 1988 season but continued to struggle with his body, managing just a dozen games over two years before returning to Western Australia.
