Recruited from East Fremantle via the rookie list, Steven Dodd was a disciplined defender who forged a respectable career at Fremantle. He joined his older brother Brad at the club and quickly established himself as a reliable tough-nut in the backline, eventually surpassing his sibling in games played. Dodd was best known for his close-checking defensive work on small and medium forwards, playing a vital lockdown role during the Dockers' 2006 campaign that saw the club reach its first preliminary final. While rarely a high-possession winner, his commitment to the contest and ability to quell dangerous opponents made him a fixture in the side for the majority of the mid-2000s.

By 2010, Dodd found himself on the fringes of selection as Fremantle pursued a youth-led rebuild under Mark Harvey. He managed to celebrate his 100th game in his final season but added only one more appearance before being delisted at the end of the year. He departed the AFL as a centurion who had maximised his opportunities after beginning his journey as a rookie, leaving a legacy as a committed clubman and a steadfast component of Fremantle's first successful era.
