Teams

Recruited from Swan Districts in the WAFL, Steven Handley took a circuitous route to the top level after an initial stint on the Brisbane Bears' list failed to yield a senior game. Handed a second chance by Geelong in the 1991 mid-season draft, the tall utility quickly established himself as a versatile key position player capable of operating at both ends of the ground or relieving in the ruck. Although a shoulder injury forced him to miss the Cats' 1992 Grand Final appearance, Handley became a regular fixture in Malcolm Blight’s powerful mid-90s lineup, featuring in both the 1994 and 1995 Grand Final losses. Often playing a supporting role to the club's superstars, he was a solid contested mark and reliable competitor who served the club well during its era of regular finals contention.
