Bio
The son of dual Richmond premiership player Kevin Morris, Steven Morris took a circuitous route to the AFL after being initially overlooked at the draft table. He carved out a strong reputation in the SANFL with West Adelaide before Richmond secured him ahead of the 2012 season via a trade with Greater Western Sydney, who had accessed him as a pre-listed state league player. A small defender defined by his manic pressure and reckless courage, Morris compensated for a lack of offensive polish with elite defensive intent, often tasked with shutting down dangerous opposition small forwards. He was a mainstay of the Tigers' backline during their return to finals action, but a serious knee injury in 2016 pushed him to the fringes of selection. Though he missed out on the senior team's 2017 premiership, Morris remained a highly respected clubman, finishing his tenure as the captain of the VFL side's premiership-winning team that same year.
