Bio
Recruited from West Broken Hill in the far west of New South Wales, Stuart Bown moved to Adelaide to join Norwood, where he quickly established himself by winning premierships and Best and Fairest awards in both the Under-19s and Reserves. His reliability and strong form in the SANFL saw him placed on the Adelaide Crows' rookie list in 2000 before being elevated to the senior squad for the 2001 season. Standing 191cm, Bown was a versatile key position player who could operate at centre half-forward, centre half-back, or provide relief in the ruck, known particularly for his ability to take a contested mark. He made his AFL debut in the Crows' historic first match for premiership points at York Park against Hawthorn, but found it difficult to secure a permanent spot in a side well-stocked with tall timber. Following his delisting at the end of 2001, Bown returned to the Parade and carved out a distinguished SANFL career, eventually playing 200 games for the Redlegs and earning Life Membership as a club stalwart.
