Bio
A sturdy full-back recruited from Birchip in the Mallee region, Stuart Cartwright’s football journey was significantly interrupted by World War II. He first arrived at Punt Road in 1942, playing in the reserves before his career was put on hold for two years of Army service. Cartwright returned to the club to finally break into the senior lineup in 1945, managing seven games as a key defender during the immediate post-war season. While he proved to be a solid competitor in the backline, he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior 22 and returned to the bush the following year to continue his career with his home club.
