Bio
Recruited from VFA powerhouse Springvale, Stuart Nicol was a versatile key position talent who arrived at the Western Oval hoping to translate his Association form to the elite level. Standing 193cm, the towering forward-ruck made a promising start to his league career by booting a goal on debut against North Melbourne in 1988, though the milestone was somewhat overshadowed by opposing debutant John Longmire's four-goal haul. Nicol was a strong overhead mark who could roam between centre half-forward and the ruck, a skillset that saw him play a crucial role in the club's reserves premiership that same year. Despite his obvious aerial ability, he struggled to cement a regular senior spot in a transitional side and departed after two seasons, eventually proving his quality as a Liston Trophy winner in the VFA and a premiership player in the SANFL.
