Stats
Bio
Recruited from the local Collingwood Juniors, Edward "Ted" Burke was a solidly built defender who earned a brief trial with the Magpies at the turn of the century. Standing 180cm, he possessed the physical frame to hold his own in contested situations, a trait that saw him selected in a back pocket for his debut against St Kilda in Round 5, 1900. He retained his place for three consecutive matches, featuring in a win over the Saints followed by losses to Carlton and Melbourne, but was unable to cement a permanent position in a defensive unit that included club greats like Bill Proudfoot. Burke’s VFL career was confined to that single month of football, though he lived a long life after his playing days ended, passing away in 1967 at the age of 89.
