Recruited from Port Melbourne Juniors, Ted Collins was a diminutive winger who became a regular fixture in the St Kilda lineup just prior to the First World War. Standing only 168cm and weighing 67kg, he relied on his agility and pace along the flanks, quickly establishing himself in the senior side after debuting as a teenager in 1913. His career momentum was effectively stalled when St Kilda went into recess for the 1916 and 1917 seasons due to the conflict, but he returned to the club when they rejoined the league in 1918 to help rebuild the side. Collins remained a consistent contributor for two more seasons before his opportunities dwindled, eventually finishing his VFL tenure after a handful of appearances in 1921.
