Bio
Born in Richmond, Ted Fisher’s VFL career was bookended by an extraordinary eleven-year hiatus and defined by his service during World War I. After managing just a single senior appearance for St Kilda in 1907, he spent the prime of his footballing life in the VFA with Northcote and Preston. His pathway back to the big league was forged on the battlefields of Gallipoli and France, where he served with the AIF and played in military football teams alongside several Richmond players, including "Checker" Hughes. Known as "Anzac" to his mates, the strong and courageous ruck-rover was recruited to Punt Road in 1918 largely on the strength of these wartime connections. He played four games for the Tigers in the final year of the war, providing a brief but poignant postscript to a career interrupted by global conflict.
