Bio
Born in Echuca and educated at Xavier College, Ted Fleming was a promising young footballer whose career was ultimately defined by tragedy rather than on-field longevity. He initially broke into the VFL with a solitary appearance for Melbourne in 1905 before focusing on his studies at Trinity College. When University entered the league in 1908, Fleming returned to the top level to represent the Students in their inaugural season, managing one senior game amidst his academic commitments. His potential was never fully realised, as he died suddenly in May 1909 at the age of just 23 following a ruptured blood vessel, leaving him as a poignant footnote in the brief history of the University Football Club.
