Bio
A unique figure in VFL history due to his birth in Johannesburg, South Africa, Ted Garside arrived at Hawthorn as a mature-age recruit from local club Black Rock. Making his debut at 26 years of age in the opening round of the 1931 season, the diminutive 171cm utility struggled to cement a long-term spot in a Mayblooms side that finished second-last on the ladder. He managed six senior games without hitting the scoreboard before fading from the league, leaving his mark primarily as a distinctive piece of trivia rather than for on-field dominance.
