Bio
Recruited from the Latrobe Valley town of Yallourn, Ted Hopkins remains a unique figure in league history due to a career defined almost entirely by a single afternoon of football. A diminutive rover who struggled to command a regular spot in a powerful Carlton lineup, Hopkins is immortalised for his pivotal role as the 19th man in the 1970 Grand Final against Collingwood. With the Blues trailing by 44 points at half-time, coach Ron Barassi injected Hopkins into the fray, where he proceeded to boot four second-half goals and spark the most famous comeback in Grand Final history. Despite this defining performance, his time at the elite level was fleeting; he played just one more season before retiring to pursue other interests, eventually becoming a significant pioneer in football statistics and publishing.
