Bio
Recruited from Queenscliff, Ted Hoppen was a diminutive but sturdy back pocket and half-back who established himself in the St Kilda defence immediately prior to World War II. Standing only 170cm, he compensated for his lack of height with determination and consistency, becoming a regular fixture at the Junction Oval across three consecutive seasons. His VFL career was effectively ended by his enlistment in the Army, but his contribution to the game continued well after his service concluded. Relocating to Sydney after the war, Hoppen enjoyed a successful second act with North Shore in the Sydney Football League, where he captained the side and earned selection for New South Wales in 14 representative matches.
