Bio
Recruited from Marcellin College, Ted Johnson was a serviceable defender who broke into the Hawthorn lineup as a teenager in the late 1960s. Standing at 178cm, he typically manned the back pocket or half-back flank, playing a defensive role that rarely saw him venture forward to hit the scoreboard. His tenure at Glenferrie Oval coincided with the club's rebuilding phase under coach John Kennedy Snr and the arrival of superstar Peter Hudson, with Johnson making 42 senior appearances over four steady seasons. Despite establishing himself as a regular contributor during this era, he departed the VFL scene at the end of 1969 aged just 21, narrowly missing out on the Hawks' golden premiership era that began in 1971.
