Bio
Recruited from Hopetoun in Victoria’s Mallee region, Ted McCarthy was a mid-sized footballer who earned a brief trial with St Kilda early in the 1933 season. He broke into the senior lineup for the Round 2 clash against Essendon at Windy Hill, but his VFL career was confined to just two consecutive appearances in a struggling Saints outfit. After a heavy 84-point loss to Fitzroy in his second game, McCarthy lost his place in the side and did not feature at the elite level again. He departed the club almost as quickly as he arrived, moving to the Riverina district in New South Wales later that same year to play for Collingullie. McCarthy quickly proved his worth in country football, finishing the season as one of Collingullie's best players in their Grand Final defeat to Wagga Wagga.
