Bio
A local product who worked as a stock agent for Dalgety's, Ted McLean showed glimpses of genuine potential during a brief cameo for Geelong late in the 1912 season. He made his debut on a wing against Collingwood at Victoria Park, where he was tasked with manning the experienced Percy Gibb, earning praise from the Geelong Advertiser for a promising performance under pressure. McLean managed just one more senior appearance—a win over Richmond at Corio Oval—before his football career was permanently halted by the outbreak of the Great War. He enlisted in the 8th Battalion in 1914 and served at Gallipoli, where he was killed in action at Shrapnel Valley in May 1915 at the age of 21.
