Bio
Recruited from VFA powerhouse Oakleigh, Ted Ryan was a versatile utility whose promising VFL career was cut short by administrative red tape. He made an immediate impact for Footscray in 1945, showing sharp goal sense to boot seven majors in just six senior appearances, but a clearance dispute saw him forced back to the Association the following season. Ryan went on to forge a distinguished career at Oakleigh, famously filling in as an emergency full-back in their 1950 premiership side and earning VFA representative honours, proving himself a player of genuine quality who likely would have enjoyed a longer League tenure had circumstances permitted.
