A product of Mentone whose arrival at Arden Street was delayed by service in the Second World War, Ted Turner was a rugged centre half back who squeezed his entire VFL career into the immediate post-war years. He managed 16 senior appearances for North Melbourne between 1944 and 1946, offering defensive stability during a transitional era for the club. However, his time at the top level ended controversially when he crossed to VFA club Brighton without a clearance, incurring a suspension from the VFL that effectively ended his League career. While his stint with the Kangaroos was brief, Turner went on to establish a formidable legacy in the Association, starring in Brighton's 1948 premiership side and eventually crowning his career by winning the 1954 J.J. Liston Trophy.
