Bio
Recruited from the Richmond VFA side, Ted Wade managed just a single senior appearance for Melbourne in 1904 before crossing to South Melbourne, where he became a fixture of the club's emerging golden era. A versatile and reliable competitor capable of playing through the midfield or in defence, Wade started in the centre during the 1907 Grand Final defeat but etched his name into folklore as a disciplined back pocket. Called upon to replace the injured Bill Dolphin for the 1909 premiership decider, he played a crucial role in securing the club's first VFL flag. He remained a consistent contributor at the Lake Oval until 1910, eventually leaving the league to captain Bairnsdale in the country leagues.
