A Geelong local who took a detour via West Perth before making his VFL debut, Teddy Lockwood was a sharp-shooting forward who achieved the rare feat of topping the league goalkicking list at two different clubs. He arrived at the Pivot alongside his twin brother George and made an immediate impact, leading the competition’s scoring in 1900 with his slippery movement and reliability around goal. Despite his on-field production, Lockwood's time at Geelong ended abruptly when the club lost patience with his irregular attendance at training, a dispute that facilitated his clearance to Collingwood in 1902. The move proved to be a masterstroke for the Magpies, as Lockwood slotted seamlessly into their attack to play a pivotal role in the back-to-back premierships of 1902 and 1903. He capped off his dominant 1903 campaign with a second Leading Goalkicker medal, cementing his status as one of the era’s most dangerous forwards before eventually transitioning into goal umpiring after his retirement.
