Arriving at Fremantle as a mature-age recruit from the Perth Football Club, Tendai Mzungu formed a crucial part of the Dockers' strategy to top-up with experienced WAFL bodies in the early 2010s. Secured via a trade with Gold Coast during the Suns' establishment window, he overcame a preseason knee injury to make his debut in 2011, quickly establishing himself as an elite endurance runner with high tactical discipline. Mzungu became a fixture in Ross Lyon's lineup, often deployed as a defensive forward or a run-with midfielder tasked with nullifying opposition stars. His most enduring highlight came on the club's biggest stage, snapping Fremantle's first goal of the 2013 Grand Final to break a lengthy scoring drought against Hawthorn.

Despite his consistency, Mzungu was squeezed out of Fremantle's best 22 during the club's rebuild in 2016 and was delisted after 102 games. He was thrown a lifeline by Greater Western Sydney, who recruited him to provide leadership depth to a young list contending for finals. His stint with the Giants was brief and hampered by injury; he made just four senior appearances in 2017 before announcing his retirement. Mzungu is remembered as a selfless, hardworking professional who maximized his natural endurance to become a key servant during Fremantle's most successful era.
