Bio
Recruited from Coragulac in the football-rich Colac district, Terry Tate was a diminutive rover and forward pocket who earned two distinct stints at VFL level. He initially broke into the Geelong senior side as an 18-year-old in 1961, but found opportunities scarce within a Cats lineup that was rapidly building towards a premiership era. After falling out of favour at Kardinia Park, Tate was thrown a lifeline by South Melbourne in 1964, where the struggling Swans were eager for goal-kicking support. He proved to be a handy acquisition near the big sticks for his new club, booting eight goals in his nine appearances in the red and white, showcasing a natural goal sense for a player of his size (173cm). Despite his ability to hit the scoreboard, his return to the top flight was short-lived, and he concluded his VFL career at the end of the 1965 season with 11 games split across two clubs.
