Bio
A pioneering local talent recruited from Pennant Hills, Terry Thripp holds a significant place in history as the first Sydney-born player to debut for the Swans after their relocation from South Melbourne. The son of former Collingwood footballer Bill Thripp, he was a versatile key position player capable of holding down centre half-back or providing a target in attack, most notably kicking 22 goals during a career-best 1989 season where he polled eight Brownlow votes. However, his time at the elite level was defined by a constant battle with his body; chronic injury setbacks, including a severe ankle fracture that cost him two full seasons in the mid-80s, limited him to just 78 appearances over a decade. Despite these struggles, Thripp remained a respected figure for his resilience and utility value, eventually being named at centre half-back in the North Shore Bombers' Team of the Century.
