Bio
Hailing from Albany and the son of local football figure Leith Edwards, Thomas Edwards took the scenic route to the AFL, balancing a career as a high school maths teacher with a standout tenure for Swan Districts in the WAFL. The high-flying forward earned his shot at the elite level after a dazzling four-goal preseason cameo against the Western Bulldogs saw him signed by Essendon as a mature-age recruit in the 2025 Supplemental Selection Period. A dynamic 191cm target known for his spectacular vertical leap and contested marking ability, Edwards made an immediate impact by booting three goals on debut against Adelaide, only for his promising first campaign to be cut short by an ACL rupture sustained at training just a week later. Despite the devastating setback, the Bombers extended his contract for 2026, leaving the exciting forward to focus on his rehabilitation and the opportunity to repay the club’s faith upon his return.
