Bio
Selected by West Coast with pick 20 in the 2008 National Draft, Thomas Swift was a highly rated junior prospect whose draft stock slipped slightly due to two serious knee injuries sustained during his teenage years. A prolific ball-winning midfielder known for his elite endurance and aerobic capacity, Swift often struggled with disposal efficiency, a flaw that frequently made him a target for criticism despite his high work rate. He played 34 games across four seasons but found it difficult to command a permanent spot in the Eagles' engine room as the club rebuilt its midfield depth. Swift's career is most notable for its premature conclusion, as he voluntarily retired at the end of the 2012 season aged just 22 to pursue a medical degree, prioritising his academic aspirations over professional football.
