Bio
Recruited from St Joseph’s in the Geelong Football League, Tim Darcy became a defensive stalwart during one of the Cats' most entertaining but ultimately unrequited eras. Often undersized as a key defender at 186cm, he relied on competitiveness and versatility to quell larger opponents, frequently lining up at full-back. He was a fixture in Malcolm Blight’s attacking sides of the late 1980s and early 1990s, featuring in both the legendary 1989 Grand Final loss to Hawthorn and the 1992 defeat to West Coast.
Darcy’s time at Kardinia Park ended in heartbreak when he missed out on the 1994 Grand Final despite playing 21 games that season. Following his delisting by Geelong, he was thrown a lifeline by Essendon in the pre-season draft, where he added a final 14 games to his tally in 1995. He retired with 190 games to his name, remembered as a durable servant who played a crucial role in Geelong’s strong but premiership-starved generation.
