Teams

A product of the Tasmanian football system from Southern Districts, Tim Hazell was a strong-bodied utility who arrived at Hawthorn via pick 55 in the 1999 National Draft. After developing in the reserves, he broke into the senior side in 2001, playing five games primarily as a half-forward flanker where he displayed a penetrating kick and safe hands on the lead. However, his progress was severely hampered by persistent injuries, including a debilitating battle with osteitis pubis that ruined his 2002 campaign. Although the Hawks offered him a lifeline via the rookie list for 2003, he could not force his way back into the senior lineup and was eventually cut. Hazell received a final AFL opportunity when Adelaide selected him in the 2004 Rookie Draft, but he spent the season playing solid football for Norwood in the SANFL rather than adding to his AFL games tally before being delisted a second time.
