Bio
A redheaded schoolteacher standing an imposing 198cm (6ft 6in), Tim Lane was arguably the tallest player of his era and arrived at Melbourne via Lancefield with a reputation as a powerful kick. He made an immediate impact on debut against Collingwood in Round 1, 1912, where he slotted a goal from a massive 60-yard place kick just before the bell. Despite his physical dominance and a respectable return of 11 goals in 13 games, his time at the top level was fleeting; he was cleared to Carlton for the 1913 season but never played a senior match for the Blues, eventually moving to the Gippsland region to officiate as a country umpire.
