Recruited from the Ballarat Rebels with pick 26 in the 1996 National Draft, Tim Notting became a vital structural component of the Brisbane Lions' greatest era. Standing 191cm, Notting was a prototype for the modern tall athlete, possessing the endurance to run all day on a wing and the size to create difficult mismatches for opposition midfields. His penetrating right boot and ability to slot long-range goals on the run made him a dangerous offensive weapon, playing a key role in the club's 2001 and 2002 premiership victories.
Despite his integral status during the early 2000s, Notting experienced the harsh reality of competition for spots in a dynasty side, famously missing selection for the 2003 Grand Final after playing 20 games that season. He rebounded to become a senior leader during the club's transition period, often utilized across half-back where his line-breaking run remained an asset. Notting retired at the end of 2009 as a Brisbane Lions Life Member, leaving the game as a dual premiership player who helped define the athletic standards of the team's golden generation.
