Teams

Recruited from Colac-Coragulac in country Victoria, Tim Pekin established himself as a durable and versatile utility during a turbulent era for the Fitzroy Football Club. He gave the Lions six seasons of consistent service, often plugging gaps in defence or running through the wings, before a contract dispute with the financially struggling club led to his departure at the end of 1989. Refusing to accept a pay cut required by the cash-strapped Lions, he was delisted and subsequently found a new home at Moorabbin, where his career found a second wind.

At St Kilda, Pekin became a key cog in the side's resurgence during the early 1990s, reinventing himself as a disciplined defensive midfielder and tagger. He was renowned for his fitness and concentration, often tasked with nullifying the opposition's most dangerous ball-winners while providing steady rebound from the half-back line. His professionalism and longevity saw him achieve the rare feat of playing over 100 games for two separate clubs, retiring in 1995 as a highly respected figure who had squeezed every ounce of potential out of his career.
