Bio
Tim Robb was a tenacious rover and goal-kicking forward who carved out a respectable VFL career after serving in both the Army and Navy during World War II. Recruited from VFA club Yarraville, where he had shared the 1946 Argus Medal for best and fairest, Robb initially joined Footscray in 1947 before making a notable mid-season switch to North Melbourne in 1949. Standing just 170cm, he was sometimes criticised for lacking the natural pace of a traditional rover, but he compensated with a "fanatical" dedication to fitness and a disciplined lifestyle that stood in contrast to his rugged work on the wharves. His hard running and eye for goal saw him play a key role in North Melbourne's historic 1950 campaign, where he booted two goals in the club's inaugural Grand Final defeat to Essendon. Robb left the VFL after the 1951 season to pursue a prolific coaching career in the Riverina, eventually leading the Wagga Tigers to a dynasty of premierships.
