A graduate of Melbourne's Next Generation Academy, Toby Bedford entered the AFL system via the 2018 National Draft but struggled to cement a regular spot in the Demons' premiership-contending lineup, often finding himself relegated to the role of medical substitute. Seeking greater opportunity, he requested a trade to Greater Western Sydney ahead of the 2023 season, where he immediately showcased his elite aerobic capacity and tackling intent. While initially recruited as a high-pressure small forward, Bedford reinvented himself under coach Adam Kingsley in 2024, transitioning into one of the competition's most effective run-with taggers capable of nullifying the league's most damaging midfielders. This tactical evolution has transformed him from a fringe player into a vital, disciplined component of the Giants' engine room.
