Recruited from West Perth, Todd Curley's initial entry into the AFL came via Collingwood, who selected him with pick 41 in the 1993 National Draft. His stint at Victoria Park was short-lived, yielding only three senior games in 1994 before he was delisted and returned to the WAFL. His reprieve came when the Western Bulldogs drafted him ahead of the 1996 season, offering a second chance that defined his career. At the Whitten Oval, Curley evolved into an uncompromising defender and utility player, becoming a regular fixture in Terry Wallace's competitive sides of the late 1990s.

Renowned for his aggression and straight-line attack on the football, Curley provided a hard edge to the Bulldogs' defence, often tasked with shutting down dangerous medium-sized forwards. While his fiery demeanour made him a valuable enforcer, it also led to occasional tribunal scrutiny, including a high-profile suspension in his final season for contact with an umpire. After retiring at the end of 2001, Curley returned to Western Australia where he built a substantial legacy as a long-serving and premiership-winning senior coach in the WAFL, primarily with South Fremantle.
