Bio
Recruited from North Melbourne Juniors, Tom Bollard made an immediate impact for South Melbourne after breaking into the side late in the 1914 season. Originally a centreman who seized his opportunity when regular Dick Mullaly was unavailable, Bollard retained his spot for the 1914 Grand Final, where he became the central figure in a heart-stopping finish; injured and playing forward, he was denied a potential match-saving mark by Carlton’s Ernie Jamieson in the dying seconds of a six-point loss. A rugged competitor who was suspended for "slinging" an opponent in 1915, he returned after the club’s 1916 wartime recess to play his final season as a defender. His promising career was cut short when he tragically died in an industrial accident in 1920 at the age of just 29.
