Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick 36 in the 2015 National Draft, Tom Cole quickly evolved from a hopeful draftee into a premiership defender. He cemented his place in the West Coast line-up during the club’s celebrated 2018 season, playing with a maturity that belied his inexperience. That breakout year saw him earn a Rising Star nomination and a premiership medallion in just his 27th game, performing admirably on the grand stage shortly after the personal tragedy of losing his father. A courageous small defender, Cole built a reputation for his disciplined lockdown work on dangerous opposition forwards and his willingness to put his body on the line to intercept aerial contests.
His career path hit a major hurdle during the Eagles' difficult post-2021 era, as he was sidelined for the entire 2022 season with a severe ankle injury. The long rehabilitation period tested his resolve, but he returned to become a vital stable presence in a backline stripped of club legends like Shannon Hurn and Brad Sheppard. By 2024, he had re-established his durability by playing every game of the season, transitioning into a senior leadership role. Now an experienced campaigner, Cole remains a critical structural piece for West Coast, tasked with mentoring a developing defensive unit while maintaining his own high standards of defensive accountability.
