Stats
Bio
Recruited from Burnley after initially being listed by Richmond without a senior appearance, Tom Ferguson was a versatile big man who established himself at Melbourne during the war years. Standing 180cm, he was a utility capable of filling key posts or pinch-hitting in the ruck, famously making his debut as a late inclusion in defence before finding success as a forward. His VFL trajectory was interrupted by service with the RAAF during World War II, costing him the 1944 and 1945 seasons. Upon his return to civilian life, Ferguson crossed to Hawthorn, where he became a consistent senior contributor for three years. His connection to the Hawks extended well beyond his playing days, as he later watched his son, Neil Ferguson, wear the brown and gold in two premiership sides during the 1960s.
