Arriving at Princes Park from the Ballarat Imperials, Tom Fox was a capable forward who showed early promise during Carlton's 1902 campaign. He proved to be a handy avenue to goal, booting seven majors in his ten senior appearances for the Blues, but his time in the VFL was ultimately curtailed by the economic allure of the west. Fox departed Victoria after just a single season to work in the goldfields at Davyhurst, where he continued to play locally for the Mines Rovers alongside former teammate Frank Bourke. While his league football career was fleeting, Fox eventually established a far more enduring legacy in public life, becoming a prominent union official on the Fremantle docks and serving as a Labor member in the Western Australian Parliament for over fifteen years.
