Bio
Recruited from the Dandenong Stingrays with pick 33 in the 2008 National Draft, Tom Gillies faced the unenviable task of trying to break into one of the greatest backlines in modern football history at Geelong. A tall defender capable of manning key posts, his opportunities were severely limited by the durability and form of premiership stars such as Matthew Scarlett, Harry Taylor, and Tom Lonergan, restricting him to just 13 appearances over four seasons at Kardinia Park. Seeking regular senior football, Gillies joined Melbourne as a delisted free agent for the 2013 season, intended to provide depth to the Demons' defensive stocks. However, he was unable to secure a permanent role in the back half, managing just two further games before being delisted at the end of the year.
