Stats
Bio
Recruited from Footscray juniors, Tom Grimshaw established himself as a remarkably durable defender for South Melbourne, playing 82 consecutive games from his debut in Round 1, 1908. A reliable half-back flanker, he played a pivotal yet unusual role in the 1909 premiership victory; after being knocked unconscious in the first quarter, he was moved to full-forward and famously hit the post, coming within inches of kicking his solitary career goal. His impressive streak of appearances finally ended due to a knee injury in 1912, a cruel blow that ruled him out of that year's Grand Final side. Grimshaw eventually requested a clearance back to the VFA with Footscray, where he won another premiership in 1913 before his career ended controversially following allegations regarding his performance in the 1914 decider.
