Bio
Arriving at Geelong with the substantial weight of expectation that accompanies a father-son recruit, Tom Hawkins was secured with pick 41 in the 2006 National Draft. The son of former Cat Jack Hawkins, he entered the AFL as a powerfully built key forward whose raw size immediately set him apart. While his initial seasons were punctuated by scrutiny regarding his consistency and fitness, Hawkins matured into the prototypical power forward of his generation. He utilised his immense physical strength to dominate one-on-one contests, becoming an elite contested mark and developing a unique capacity to create scoring opportunities for teammates through deft ruck work inside the forward 50.
Hawkins cemented his status as a Geelong legend through his remarkable longevity and ability to deliver in high-stakes matches. His performance in the 2011 Grand Final, where he overpowered the Collingwood defence to swing the momentum of the match, remains the defining image of his early career. Over an 18-season tenure, he claimed three premierships, five All-Australian selections, and the 2020 Coleman Medal. He surpassed Joel Selwood in his final year to become the club's all-time games record holder, retiring at the end of the 2024 season as one of the most durable and effective forwards of the modern era.
