Bio
Born into true Maroon royalty, Tom Hickey was the nephew of Fitzroy foundation players Pat and Con Hickey, ensuring the famous surname returned to the Brunswick Street Oval in the 1920s. A serviceable forward who could use his 180cm frame to influence contests, he proved to be a handy avenue to goal but struggled to cement a permanent place in the senior lineup. His career was ultimately a stop-start affair, drifting in and out of the side for 35 games across six seasons without ever quite replicating the on-field dominance of his pioneering uncles. Hickey’s time in the game was brief and his life tragically so, as he passed away at the age of 33 only six years after his final VFL appearance.
