Bio
Originally a Queensland zone selection for the Gold Coast Suns, Tom Hickey entered the league with a background in volleyball before embarking on a unique journeyman career that saw him become the first player to represent four clubs in four different states. After developmental years with the Suns and a six-season tenure at St Kilda where he battled for the primary ruck mantle against established teammates, he spent a brief period at West Coast providing depth support behind Nic Naitanui.
Hickey's career found a remarkable second wind following his trade to Sydney ahead of the 2021 season. Initially recruited to plug a gap in the Swans' injury-hit ruck division, he delivered the most consistent football of his career, celebrated for his contest work and ability to act as an extra midfielder at ground level. He retired at the end of 2023, leaving the game not merely as a traveller, but as a cult hero who played his most influential football in his thirties.
