Bio
Recruited from Norwood via the 2011 Rookie Draft, Tom Jonas carved out a reputation as one of Port Adelaide's most uncompromising and selfless defenders. Initially breaking into the side as a disciplined backman capable of playing on both talls and smalls, he relied on grit and determination rather than flashy athleticism to quell dangerous opponents. His fearless approach to spoiling and willingness to put his body on the line endeared him to the Alberton crowd, establishing him as a mainstay in the Power's back six for over a decade.
Jonas's standing at the club was cemented when he was appointed co-captain alongside Ollie Wines in 2019, before assuming the sole captaincy from 2020 until his retirement. A testament to the rookie-list pathway, he led by example with his physical sacrifice and defensive accountability throughout his tenure. Although he fell out of the preferred starting lineup during his final season in 2023 as the club looked to regenerate its defence, Jonas retired as a highly respected one-club player and a Life Member of Port Adelaide, having squeezed every ounce of potential out of his career.
