Bio
A diminutive forward pocket and rover, Tom Jones was a goal-kicking specialist whose career was defined by a struggle for opportunities during a golden era for the Melbourne Football Club. Standing just 165cm, he relied on his crumbing ability and goal sense rather than physical size, possessing an impressive strike rate of better than a goal per game throughout his brief VFL tenure. After debuting in 1925, Jones found himself on the fringe of a powerful Demons lineup, managing only a handful of senior appearances while the club surged toward its 1926 premiership. He enjoyed his most consistent run of form in 1929, booting 10 goals in eight matches, but could not permanently cement his place in the side. Jones crossed to St Kilda in 1931 for one final senior appearance, scoring a goal in his only game for the Saints before fading from the league level.
