Bio
Arriving at the Western Bulldogs as a father-son selection in the 2010 draft, Tom Liberatore carried the weight of a famous surname but quickly established his own identity as one of the competition's premier inside midfielders. While his father Tony was renowned for his tenacious tagging, the younger Liberatore developed into an elite extraction specialist, utilising exceptional vision and quick hands to feed outside runners. After claiming the Charles Sutton Medal in just his fourth season, his trajectory was halted by a ruptured ACL that forced him to miss the entire 2015 campaign, though he returned the following year to play a pivotal role in the club's drought-breaking 2016 premiership.
Liberatore's career was defined by his ability to overcome significant adversity, including a second major knee reconstruction in 2018 that threatened to end his time at the elite level. Against the odds, he not only returned but produced some of his most consistent football well into his thirties, reinventing himself as the spiritual leader of the Bulldogs' engine room. A one-club player and undisputed cult hero at the Whitten Oval, his legacy is that of a contested beast who combined high-pressure defensive acts with an uncanny knack for winning clearances, often sacrificing his own body to bring teammates into the game.
