Bio
Drafted by St Kilda with a first-round selection in the 2008 National Draft, Tom Lynch initially found opportunities scarce in a powerful Saints lineup led by Nick Riewoldt, managing just six games over three seasons. Seeking regular senior football, he was traded to Adelaide ahead of the 2012 season, where he evolved into one of the competition's premier high half-forwards. While he demonstrated significant scoring power early in his Crows tenure—highlighted by a ten-goal haul against GWS and topping the club's goalkicking in 2013—Lynch became best known as the "connector" in Adelaide's potent attack. His elite aerobic capacity allowed him to work up the ground to provide a bail-out option, while his strong hands and vision were pivotal in setting up teammates like Taylor Walker and Eddie Betts.
A key member of the Crows' 2017 Grand Final side, Lynch was highly regarded for his leadership and football IQ, often acting as an on-field general. After 158 games for Adelaide, he was delisted following the 2021 season as the club committed to a youth-led rebuild. He was subsequently recruited by North Melbourne for the 2022 season, primarily to serve as a playing mentor for a developing list. Lynch managed a handful of games for the Kangaroos before retiring to transition immediately into coaching, leaving a legacy as a selfless structural player who sacrificed personal statistics for team fluency.
