Bio
Plucked from Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley late in the 1910 season, Tom McCluskey was a raw talent identified by Carlton secretary Arthur Ford during a country scouting trip. A half-back flanker, he was thrust immediately into the senior side and remarkably featured in the 1910 Grand Final against Collingwood in just his fourth VFL appearance. Despite this rapid ascent, his time at Princes Park was brief; he crossed to Fitzroy for the 1911 season where he added another five games to his tally before transferring to Footscray in the VFA. His football journey was cut short by the Great War, with McCluskey tragically killed in action at Passchendaele in 1917.
