Bio
Recruited from Prahran Tech, Tom McKay was a key defender who experienced a stop-start career at the Junction Oval during St Kilda's rebuilding phase. Standing 188cm, he possessed the height to man the key defensive posts but initially struggled to break into the senior side, making a solitary appearance in his debut 1959 season before spending two years out of the lineup. He fought his way back into the fold in 1962 under legendary coach Allan Jeans, serving as a structural option in the backline and providing cover for defensive stars like Verdun Howell. While he managed 21 games across the 1962 and 1963 seasons, McKay was ultimately unable to cement a permanent spot in the starting 22 as the Saints rapidly improved, departing the club just as they began their ascent toward the 1965 and 1966 Grand Finals.
