Bio
Recruited from St Ignatius, Tom Re is often cited by historians for possessing the shortest surname in VFL/AFL history. A sturdy back pocket defender, he broke into the Fitzroy lineup late in the 1936 season, debuting in a loss to Essendon at the Brunswick Street Oval. He managed just three senior appearances across two years for the Maroons before crossing to the VFA, where he found his footing as a regular contributor. Re went on to play 83 games for Coburg, becoming a reliable figure in their defence before his football journey was interrupted by service in the Australian Army during World War II.
